Within the Video “Configuring Windows Server Desktop Experience” in Module 1 “Installing and configuring Windows Server” the video demonstrates assigning a Static IP to the Server instead of utilizing DHCP reservation which is not discussed further although mentioned as an option. When the static IP is assigned to Server “DE01” instead of assigning an IP outside of the DHCP Scope instead the address that is assigned is 192.168.1.49 which was assigned by the DHCP Server. This will cause issues unless the DHCP Server has " Address Conflict Detection" configured or you are assigning an IP outside of the DHCP Scope. Just wanted to make this point clear since others that are learning for the first time and don’t have experience with IP addressing or DHCP will run into an issue. Hopefully, this can be updated to be addressed in the content going forward for future learners.
Hi cpinto898,
You are right, typically you will assign a static IP Address out of the DHCP scope unless the address is reserved in DHCP.
Although we cover DHCP Scopes, Exclusions, and Reservations in Module 5, it is a good practice to assign a static IP address for your servers in your subnet from the beginning when building your infrastructure.
