Is it best to use REFS for storage drive where hyperv vhdx data files are kept

I have installed Hyper V Role for a Bare metal hypervisor with NTFS format. On another storage drivewhere i will be storing my VMs, should i use REFS format. Then within each VM, format it as NTFS.

C Drive - Hyper V - Bare Metal GUI - NTFS
D Drive 2TB Raid 1 - VMs Storage - REFS
VM1 - WIN2K19-DC - Format NTFS
VM2 - WIN2K19-SR01 - Member server - Format NTFS

Or should i be formatting as NTFS instead of REFS. I have read REFS is the recommended option for storing VMs.

Hi ttcs,

Good question. Both are ok to use but I would choose NTFS as it has been out longer and does offer more features, while ReFS is still limited in some functionality. The slow adoption of ReFS and lack of some functionality makes NTFS still a good choice.
