From the error message, the backup process might have missed a setting and errored out on the restore. Try doing it again just in case the backup was corrupted.

Ok, I will try it again and let you know.
Thank you,

Hi Ricardo,
I tried again and got the same result. I then restarted the server in the restore mode and tried again with the same error. I then rebooted the server normally and see the backup in the shared Backups folder. Does this mean I need to start the entire lab over again to recreate the backup and then try the restore yet again? I may just skip this module and come back to it as I am making little to no progress in the course at this rate.
Thank you,
Chris
That’s correct, when a backup is made there’s a folder like the one in the screenshot. Initially, I suggested doing the lab again since besides there’s not much on google when searching for “No Sysvol component was found in the specified backup” it seemed to me that the System State backup or Sysvol was corrupted.
I went over the Lab: Active Directory Backups following the steps for Restoring an Active Directory Backup and saw no error. Thinking, as I remembered seeing that error once when testing the lab, I tried safe mode and the backup didn’t run, entering in the Directory Services Restore Mode option after restarting and pressing F8 with the domain password is not accepted.
Maybe you can let me know the steps you’ve followed in detail to maybe see if there’s something missing or you can follow the steps from Restoring an Active Directory Backup to see if you get anything different.
Ricardo.
