I am trying to promote the server as a secondary domain controller to the ad.serveracademy.com domain. I keep on getting this message “Encountered an error contacting domain ad.serveracademy.com, this server is not operational”.

Hi @solomone

The error message on the secondary domain controller is that it can’t find the primary domain controller. Check the DNS IP address of the secondary domain controller and ensure it is of the primary domain controller so it can resolve the domain name ad.serveracademy.com. Also, both virtual machines need to be configured with the same network adapter configuration.

I am having this same problem and I thought everything is correct but I’m not sure

it should be 192.168.1.10 right?

Yes, @michaelt4 that’s correct. You can always check the IP address from that server. Also, check the subnet mask.
